How it Works
VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, works by transforming analog audio signals,
like the kind you hear when you talk on the phone, into a digital signal that can be transmitted over the
Internet and converted back to voice at the other end.
Some VoIP services work with special software that enables you to use your PC speakers and microphone to
“call” another PC or phone. Other VoIP services, like the kind offered by Phone.com, work with an adapter
that enables you to use a standard phone to call anyone, anywhere. You dial the same way you normally would
and the person you are calling doesn’t require anything special to talk to you. In fact, when you use VOIP,
they probably won’t even hear a difference. The nationwide network delivers clear, dependable phone service
at a fraction of the cost of traditional phone services.
Subscribing to a VoIP service requires a broadband (high speed internet) connection. You can use the same
connection you use for your computer and still talk on the phone while you are online or when your computer is turned off.
Because VoIP leverages the power of the Internet, it provides advantages that aren’t available with regular phone
services. For example, you can:
- Select a phone number with an area code outside of your calling area.
- Take your telephone adapter with you to make and receive calls when you travel. All you need is a high speed internet connection.
- Manage your preferences, features, and listen to your voicemails online.
- Set up multiple virtual telephone numbers to provide friends, family, and customers with a local number where they can reach you.
- Talk all you want to other Phone.com subscribers - for free regardless of their location!
- Enjoy features such as Call Return (*69) without paying more.

Phone.Com's VOIP plans start at $9.88 or get unlimited calling throughout the U.S. and Canada for just $18.88. All plans include advanced features that typically cost extra with traditional phone service providers. Plus, we offer attractive savings on International calling.
